Southern Soul Barbeque

I was cruising along St Simon Island on the Georgia coast a while back and stumbled across a cool looking bbq joint, Southern Soul Barbeque.

IMG_5922IMG_5915I think these guys were on BBQ Pitmasters back in season 2.

The first thing you notice about the place is the three massive smokers in front of the store. They have two Myron Mixon smokers and one giant pit.

IMG_5913IMG_5920Big piles of wood were laying around and everything smelled great!

The inside of the joint was small and packed. The décor was perfect; wooden tables, blue concrete and fake flowers.

IMG_5918They had a lot of local memorabilia on the walls as well. Overall the place had a great atmosphere. The chicks running the counter were tattooed up pretty heavily and looked like they knew how to have a good time.

I ordered the brisket sandwich. The brisket was okay…about a 6 on a 1-10 scale. They had a bunch of different sauces on the table and we found one that worked.

IMG_5919It wasn’t kick-butt barbeque but it was a wonderful place to stumble upon in the middle of the day.

It made me happy.

Peace.
